Fast to Give

Fasting can be a great way to serve the Lord. Fasting is the act of giving something up. Giving things up for the Lord helps us to focus on Him and, with prayer, align our wills with His. There can be a twofold achievement when we fast. We can take the money that we save from fasting and use it towards something that serves Him. This money can be donated to a charity, given to a homeless person or simply added to your offering in a worship service. There are many little things that would take a conscious effort to give up, but are easily accomplished.

Recognizing Christ in Others

It always seems that the more difficult tasks in life are very rewarding in the end. This is definitely true of developing the habit of seeing Jesus in every person around you. It is very important that Jesus’ presence is recognized in every person that you deal with in life. There are a number of reason for this.

  1. Jesus is present in every person
  2. Jesus made every person
  3. People are temples for the Lord and need to be treated as such
  4. Doing this makes it easier to love people you wouldn’t otherwise love

Why You Should Have an Accountability Partner

For the last few years my best friend, Drew as you have seen his posts, and I have been accountability partners. Now I know that this word is a mouthful, but it is a life saver.

Just like anyone else, I have many things that I have worked on to overcome, especially when it comes to sinful habits. I will probably be working on bad habits the rest of my life. The great thing about an accountability partner is that you have someone who is there for you and is supporting you. Someone to help keep you on track is a very useful tool.

Fighting Words

How often do you find yourself stirred up in a confrontation that has escalated well beyond what it deserves. Heated arguments over who decides what to eat for dinner? Or maybe what movie should be watched. A lot of times people find themselves more angry for the sake of being angry then angry for whatever the disagreement was about to begin with.

Many people, probably everyone, have what are called fighting words. These are words that, when spoken, escalate a temperament much faster than usual. You have to be on the look out for these words, while trying to identify fighting words for other people so that you can avoid using them.

How to Love Mean People

I usually wake up everyday with a positive attitude, anticipating a good day. While sometimes the days are not so “good”, I still appreciate them because I was given the opportunity to experience them. Thankfully the good Lord felt it appropriate to let me enjoy, or endure depending on the day, the experiences that I met with that day. I try to be very cordial and nice to the people I work with, but there are always those few, that no matter how nice I am they seem to find it necessary to be mean to me. I don’t know why, maybe it is because they are miserable at work, or just aren’t very friendly with people to begin with.

Why We Should Love Everyone

We know that we are to emulate Christ in all things. While we cannot do this perfectly we are still called to try. Jesus is God, and we know that God created all things, and saw that it was good. God loves His creation, and as such we should love His creation. Let us take a look at what Jesus has to say about loving mean people.

Mathew 5:16 – Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father.

Life and Morality

We brethren in Christ unite in an ecumenical vocation; to love one another as Christ loved us. By doing so, we pass through the threshold of virtues and continually and daily encourage one another to work patiently and diligently, being as servants to God our Father. Through unification and daily devotion, we progress further into the works of our Lord.

Life and Morality is based on the ways in which we may continually conduct ourselves for the better of our lives and the coming to the fulfillment of our calling. For there was no greater love than He Who laid down His life for His friend.

Giving God the Credit

Have you ever done something for someone else and felt good about it? Maybe you feel proud that you gave something up for someone else. One thing that we often forget when we do this is that the good things we do in life are not of ourselves, but of God. I know I myself fall into this trap quite frequently. However difficult as this might be, it is necessary to strive for a state of mind where we give God credit for everything we do right. We must have the prudence to remember that it is from God’s grace that we are able to act out his will. What a gift though! To think that God lets us be His instrument to enact His will on earth. I can think of no greater honor.

“But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another? By abortion, the mother does not learn to love, but kills even her own child to solve her problems. It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish. Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion. From here, a sign of care for the weakest of the weak – the unborn child – must go out to the world. If you become a burning light of justice and peace in the world, then really you will be true to what the founders of this country stood for.” Mother Teresa.
